Optional make-up days, moving graduation to a Saturday is discussed for 2014-15 school year

• The proposed 2014-15 school calendar was discussed. Superintendent Joe Schwan explained a few changes on the calendar. The first day of school is set for August 21 with the last day set at May 15. He noted there was no empty day between the fall in-service and the first day of school. He also noted that the elementary Christmas concert is set for the last day of school in 2014 on December 19. He said that they would keep an eye on the weather and if it looks bad for that Friday, they may move it up.

• Board member Marty Weismantel suggested that President's Day and Easter Monday could be considered optional make-up days instead of attaching them at the end of the school year. It was noted though that there would be a long stretch in January through March with no days off for the faculty. Merle Harder brought up that perhaps graduation could be done on a Saturday instead of Sunday. Schwan is going to check on the athletic calendar to see if there were any Saturdays open.

• Harder mentioned that there needs to be some improvements at the bus barns and that it needs to be added to the
