2002: High winds of 35 to 45 mph gusting to 60 to 65 mph affected central and northeast South Dakota as well as west central Minnesota through the afternoon and into the evening hours. The high winds caused some spotty tree and roof damage along with a few power outages. A few downed power lines in Aberdeen resulted in a short power outage for some people. Also, a streetlight pole was knocked down in Aberdeen. Some wind gusts included, 55 mph at Wheaton, 58 mph at McLaughlin, 59 mph at Pierre, 61 mph at Sisseton and Aberdeen, 62 mph at Mobridge, and 63 mph at Graceville, Minnesota.

1899: A "Blue Norther" caused temperatures to plunge across Texas, setting a record low for the Lone Star State with -23 degrees in Tulia.

1935: The temperature of -17 at Braemar (Grampian), Scotland was the coldest temperature ever measured in the United Kingdom. Also, on this same day, Africa's coldest temperature on record occurred at Ifrane, Morocco with -11 degrees (a ski resort town at an elevation of about 5400 feet in the Atlas Mountains).

1983: The "Megalopolitan Storm" dropped heavy snow from the Central Appalachians to Cape Cod. All-time 24-hour snowfall records were set at Allentown, PA (24") and Harrisburg, PA (also 24"). Allentown, PA and Hartford, CT reported 5 inches of snowfall in *one hour*.
