and education facility at SDSU.  The balance of the funding package will come from $1 million student fees and$2.5 million private fundraising.  At the hearing, we were told that the soybean council, as a commodity group that will benefit from increased swine production in the state, had contributed to the project, but that the Corn Council had not.   The two commodity councils have over $11 million in funds between the two of them.  The farm lobbyists were present and requesting an infusion of tax money for the project.
• I have been frustrated with the farm group lobbyists' influence on our state's ability to adequately fund education and health care.  Their groups contributed to a very misleading campaign against the sales tax increase last year.  They have opposed any efforts to generate revenue that would help us address our education shortfalls.  But when we find ourselves with a bit of an unexpected windfall, these lobbyists are
