Board agrees to discuss GPD office at GHS

• The safety of the students and faculty members was brought up by Superintendent Joe Schwan. He has been brainstorming about ideas. He said for the district to have a school resource officer is not financially feasible. "We have four certified law officers in Groton," he said. "Wouldn't it be nice if we could partner with the Groton Police Department so that our school is the safest place in town?"
• Schwan's idea is to allow the police department to be housed at the high school with an outside entry. "The officers could be doing their paperwork here. Just having them here is really important and it's just nice to have their vehicle parked out front." The discussion has not begun with the city, yet. "I wanted to find out if this is something we should open a dialog with the city about," he said. "It would be nice for us to be proactive to support school safety," said board member Kelly Kjelden.
