1944: A late January warm up occurred on this date in weather history in 1944. Temperatures rose into the upper 50s to the mid 60s across central and northeast South Dakota as well as west central Minnesota. Overnight lows in the 20s and lower 30s were above the normal highs for the year. Record highs were set at Aberdeen, Kennebec, Sisseton, and Watertown. Watertown rose to 56 degrees, Sisseton rose to 58 degrees, Aberdeen rose to 60 degrees, and Kennebec rose to 65 degrees. Also, Mobridge rose to 57 degrees, and Pierre rose to 61 degrees.

1933: Manchester, TX was struck by an F3 tornado that killed two people and destroyed 40 buildings in the small Red River community.

1937: A temperature of -45F was measured in Boca, CA setting the record low temperature for the state.
