Governor's tourism conference this week in Pierre

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Leaders in South Dakota's visitor industry will gather in Pierre on Wednesday and Thursday to network and discuss ways to increase visitation to the state.
• Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen says the 2014 Governor's Conference on Tourism is themed "Think Big. Think Bold. Think Beyond" to reflect a desire to look beyond the state's comfort zone and find ways to shine an even bigger spotlight on visitor offerings.
• Sessions will cover such topics as the art of viral social media, customer service, creative thinking and problem solving and insights into the American traveler.
• Hagen will present the department's plans for the year, and Gov. Dennis Daugaard will unveil the 2013 economic impact figures at a Thursday night awards night banquet.

South Dakota cruises past IPFW 75-61

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- Karim Rowson scored 21 points and hauled in nine rebounds as South Dakota cruised past Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne in a 75-61 win on Saturday.
• South Dakota (8-9, 3-0) overcame the Mastodons with two big drives, closing out the first half by scoring 17 of the last 25 points to carry a 33-23 advantage into the break, then broke open the game in the second half with a 17-4 run that made it 50-29 with 14 minutes to play.
• Brandon Bos contributed 13 points and Adam Thoseby added 11 for South Dakota, which hit 28 of 63 from the field to win its fifth straight game.
• IPFW (15-6, 3-1) led midway through the first half but couldn't stop South Dakota's offense.
• Luis Jacobo scored 19 points for the Mastodons, while Mo Evans had 13 points and five rebounds.
