Madison water still not declared safe to drink

• MADISON, S.D. (AP) -- Residents of the eastern South Dakota city of Madison can once again use tap water for such things as showering and doing laundry, but they still can't drink it without boiling it first.
• Officials are awaiting test results from water samples before declaring the water safe to drink.
• The city's 6,500 residents were told to stop using water late Wednesday when a concrete-and-dirt roof collapsed into an underground well that feeds the city's water towers, contaminating the water. Schools canceled classes Thursday, and bottled water was trucked into town as crews worked to clean up the mess and restore water service.
• Mayor Roy Lindsay says the water should be declared safe to drink late Friday.

• The House Judiciary Committee on Friday is scheduled to hear testimony on four bills. One sets standards and allows penalties to be imposed on insurance companies that engage in unfair practices. Other measures change the process for imposing penalties on insurance companies and improve the disclosure of information about state investigations of insurance companies.

• The plan they're studying would also eliminate three waterfowl refuges.
• One change would reclassify Reid Lake State Game Refuge as Reid Lake State Waterfowl Refuge and allow limited opportunities for upland game hunting at the area that's important for migration.
• Another proposal would change White Lake State Game Refuge to White Lake State Waterfowl Refuge. The unit boundary would be modified to make it a waterline
