AG releasing investigative docs to Auditor General

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Attorney General Marty Jackley says he's releasing criminal investigative and state grand jury information to the Department of Legislative Audit to assist with its audit of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
• The joint motion filed by Jackley and the Auditor General was approved Friday.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced an investigation into possible financial misconduct before his administration in October, a day after the funeral of former economic development director Richard Benda.
• Jackley's investigation found that $550,000 of a $1 million state grant given to Northern Beef Packers was improperly diverted to pay immigration loan monitoring fees. He also found that Benda, whose death was ruled suicide, double-billed the state for three flights.
• Jackley says it'll be up to the Auditor General to decide what records will be made public.

South Dakota farmers produce record corn crop

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Crop production in South Dakota last year was up significantly over the previous year and includes a record amount of corn.
• The National Agricultural Statistics Service says total 2013 corn production is estimated at 809 million bushels, up 51 percent over the year before.
• The South Dakota Council and Corn Growers Association say that's a record harvest.
• The average yield was an estimated 138 bushels per acre, up 37 bushels from the previous year. Total harvested acres were also up more than 5 million over 2012.
• Soybean production last year is estimated at 183 million bushels, up 27 percent from 2012.
• Alfalfa hay production of nearly 3.8 million tons was up 46 percent.
