creating a guideline for local students to use in writing local histories and using any leftover money for history scholarships and other long-term projects.
• "We're trying to get local people involved to do things. We're enablers and encouragers to try to get local activities done throughout the year," said Jim Soyer, an aide to the governor who worked with the commission.
• The report also recommends creation of a Native American legacy project that would involve cooperation by the state, South Dakota's nine tribes and nine cities. Each tribe would pick a great tribal leader from the past, and a statue of that leader would be placed in a city to help teach Native American history to students and tourists.

Tripp woman killed on icy road north of Parkston

• PARKSTON, S.D. (AP) -- A Tripp woman was killed on an icy road north of Parkston.
• It happened Friday on state Highway 37.
• The Department of Public Safety says 85-year-old Barbara Armstrong lost control of the Jeep Cherokee and rolled in the ditch. She was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

South Dakota AG releases economic probe documents

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said Friday that he is releasing criminal investigative and state grand jury information to the Department of Legislative Audit to assist with its examination of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
• Jackley and state Auditor General Martin Guindon filed the joint motion with the 6th Circuit Court on Friday, and it was approved by the judge the same day. It will be up to the state Department of Legislative Audit to decide what records will be made public when it issues its report, Jackley said.
• "The Auditor General will further define what is necessary," he said.
• Guindon said he's not sure what documents may be made public with the report and that he cannot comment on an ongoing investigation. He expects the report to be completed by Jan. 24.
• "That's still our goal," Guindon said.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced an investigation into possible financial misconduct before his administration. The news came in October, a day after the fu
