• Authorities say Madrigal last had a DWI charge in December 2011 and has also pleaded guilty to driving without a license four different times, as well as failing to stop at a stop sign.
• It's not clear if he has an attorney.

CP selling DM&E west end to Genesse & Wyoming

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Canadian Pacific says it's selling the west end of its Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern railroad line to Genesee & Wyoming Inc. for about $210 million.
• The deal includes 660 miles of rail between Tracy, Minn., and Rapid City, north of Rapid City to Colony, Wyo., and south of Rapid City to Dakota Junction, Neb. Also included are connecting branch lines and track from Dakota Junction to Crawford, Neb., currently leased to the Nebraska Northwestern Railroad.
• Canadian Pacific Railway Limited says customers on the line ship about 52,000 carloads annually of grain, bentonite clay, ethanol, fertilizer and other products.
• The new operation will be able to interchange with CP, Union Pacific, BNSF and the NNW.
• The sale is subject to U.S. Surface Transportation Board approval. It's expected to close by mid-year.

Deputy fires at suspect with officer stuck in door

• BOX ELDER, S.D. (AP) -- A western South Dakota deputy opened fire on a man who was driving away with a Box Elder police officer caught in the door.
• The Pennington County Sheriff's Office says deputies tried to arrest 24-year-old John Root Jr. on Wednesday for violating parole on drug charges.
• The sheriff's office says Box Elder officer Nick Rosser tried to remove Root from the car as he drove away but was caught and dragged through the yard.
• The office says Deputy Jamin Hartland fired at the driver, but it's not clear if he was injured. Root and another person in the vehicle crashed across the street and got away.
• Rosser was treated for injuries at a hospital and released.
• The state Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating because an officer fired his weapon.
