SD mother of 5 faces 6th drunken driving offense

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls police say they arrested a mother of five children for her sixth drunken driving offense after she was spotted driving on a sidewalk New Year's Eve with two children in her car.
• Thirty-six-year-old Nichole Kroger faces several charges including drunken driving and child abuse. Authorities say her blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit for driving. Her bond is set at $10,000.
• Her husband, Kevin Kroger, says his wife suffers from alcohol addiction and needs help, not incarceration. He says she was sober for four years before the New Year's Eve incident.
• Nichole Kroger's last DUI was in 2009. She was sentenced to five years in prison and served two years before being paroled.

Dakotas brace for blizzard conditions, bitter cold

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Parts of the Dakotas are bracing for blizzard conditions followed by the coldest weather of the winter.
• The National Weather Service has posted a blizzard warning for much of North Dakota, and winter weather advisories for northern South Dakota.
• Forecasters say the winter blast will bring only an inch or two of snow, but winds gusting to 50 mph will blow around the new snow and snow on the ground and make travel hazardous. North Dakota's Transportation Department has issued a travel alert for the north central part of the state, urging motorists to beware of blowing and drifting snow.
• Frigid arctic air will follow on the heels of the storm, with wind chills expected to drop to as low as 60 degrees below zero Saturday night through Tuesday morning.

Still no ID on bones found in Alcester Studebaker

• ALCESTER, S.D. (AP) -- Family members of two Vermillion girls who disappeared in 1971 have yet to find out if their remains were those in a car unearthed months ago.
• Seventeen-year-olds Cheryl Miller and Pamella Jackson were last seen in the Studebaker on their way to a party at a nearby gravel pit.
