Sports Notes

• Groton's girls lost their first game of the season in a hard-fought 68-60 overtime loss to Ethan at the Parkston Classic. Courtney Kurtz and Camille Sippel both fouled out while Kylie Hawkins had four fouls and Carly Wheeting and Tori Bjerke each had three. Kurtz led Groton with 24 points followed by Carly Wheeting with 14, Camille Sippel had 12, Kylie Hawkins five, Ashley Gibbs four and Tori Bjerke one.
• Coach Shaun Wanner had the following comments about the game:
• "We had the ball with six seconds left. We had a great defensive stop. They (Ethan) had the ball, took a shot and we got the rebound. We called time out. Courtney had three options--a pick and pop, Courtney tries to get to the basket, she throws it back to Carly and sets a screen or she throws it to Kylie wide open in the corner. Courtney made a great decision because everyone collapsed on her. Kylie got a nice shot from the corner and it almost went in.  Courtney and Camille both fouled out so we struggled in the overtime. The girls played well, I thought this was the best game we've played so far. Ethan is a good team. They have big girls inside and good guards and they shot the ball well. I don't think the lead in the whole game was more than four or five points. It was back and forth. It was the most exciting game of the day."
• Five wrestlers placed at the Northeast Conference tournament held in Webster. Kelby Hawkins placed first, Jeric Albrecht placed second and Parker Kroll, Tyler Scott and Brandyn Anderson each placed third.
• At the Oakes/Ellendale-Edgley-Kulm duals, Kelby Hawkins picked up two more wins as did Tyler Scott, Rayce Harder, Jeric Albrecht, Parker Kroll and Brandyn Anderson each went 1-1.
