Sioux Falls police look for man who hit snowplow

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls police are looking for the driver of a Mazda who ran into a snowplow then ran away and left a passenger trapped in the car.
• It happened Christmas morning in downtown.
• The city says the accident caused thousands of dollars of damage to the snowplow.
• Police say they know who the driver is but haven't found him yet.

Pedestrian killed in Box Elder was Minn. transient

• BOX ELDER, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota authorities have identified a pedestrian killed last week east of Rapid City in Box Elder.
• The Highway Patrol says 38-year-old Harley Pyle, of Fergus Falls, Minn., was wearing dark clothing before dawn on Dec. 20 when he was hit.
• It happened on a stretch of road that doesn't have street lights.
• The HP says there's nothing to indicate the driver of the pickup, 52-year-old Michael Albright, of Box Elder, was at fault.
• Investigators say Pyle was a transient who had been staying in the Box Elder area for some time.

Former SD Sen. Pressler running as independent

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Former U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler said Thursday that he is running for Senate as an independent.
• Pressler, 71, who grew up on a farm just west of Sioux Falls near Humboldt, served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican from 1975 to 1979 and three Senate terms with the GOP from 1979 to 1997. He lost a 1996 re-election bid to Democrat Tim Johnson, who is not seeking re-election next year after also serving three terms.
• "I'm going to say what I believe and I hope to have support across the board," Pressler said in touting positions he has taken for issues across the political spectrum.
