Victim of fiery Renner wreck identified

• RENNER, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota authorities have identified a Baltic man killed in a fiery Christmas Eve accident caused by snow a few miles north of Sioux Falls.
• Officials with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office say 24-year-old Thomas Hinz lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line of the slippery highway Tuesday afternoon and hit another vehicle. Hinz was thrown from his vehicle upon impact and died at the scene.
• The driver of the other vehicle, 64-year-old David Stoterau of Sioux Falls, saw the vehicle fishtail but was unable to avoid the collision. Stoterau was pulled from his burning vehicle by a passer-by and treated at an area hospital.
• The wreck remains under investigation.

Buffalo bars by SD co. now on 375 reservations

• KYLE, S.D. (AP) -- A Pine Ridge Indian Reservation company that makes the buffalo-meat-and-cranberry Tanka Bar has rebranded its product line.
• Native American Natural Foods President Mark Tilsen that included coming up with shrink-wrapped packaging to better protect the snacks.
• They're popular among athletes, diabetics and people looking for a quick, low-carbohydrate snack.
• Bison meat is high in protein and low in cholesterol, while the cranberries add antioxidants and flavor.
• Tilsen says the new line is focused on being more of a snack people can grab on the go, which allows the company to expand where the bars are sold.
• He says Tanka Bars are now available on 375 of the more than 550 American Indian reservations in the U.S.

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- A banner year in Pierre, three men with South Dakota ties being drafted in two professional leagues and the University of South Dakota's first NCAA Division I champion highlight an exciting year in sports in the state.
