Kjellsen gets 300th career win at Oakes

• Groton exploded in the second quarter to help propel Coach Greg Kjellson to his 300th career win. All but 22 of his wins have been in Groton.
• Oakes held an 18-16 first quarter lead before Groton out-scored Oakes, 23-3, in the second quarter, to take a 39-21 lead at half time. Groton continued to outpace Oakes and went on to win, 74-44.
• Mason Madsen led the Tigers with 15 points followed by Reilly Ell and Wyatt Lone with 13 each, Kasey Kurtz, Lucas Sternhagen and Spencer Knecht each had nine and Parker Rossow added six points.
• Groton made 55 percent of its field goals while Oakes made 28 percent. The Tigers were 12 of 20 from the line off of Oakes 16 team fouls while Oakes was 10 of 19 off of Groton's 19 team fouls.
• Groton controlled the boards, 40-33, with Madsen having 11. Groton had 16 assists with Kurtz having six, and four blocks with Madsen having two. Groton had 18 turnovers, with eight of them being steals. Oakes had 19 turnovers with 10 being steals (Kurtz three)
• Groton won the junior varsity game, 59-51. Chance Strom led the Tigers with 19 points followed by Sean Schuring with 14, Bennett Shabazz eight, Adam Herman six, Lucas Sternhagen five, Turner Webb four and Spencer Knecht three.
• Groton is now 4-0 on the season and will travel to Deuel on January 3.
