Pierre and Belle Fourche teachers get Obama award

• WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two South Dakota teachers are among 102 to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
• Erin Marsh teaches math in Pierre, S.D., and Ann Anderson is a science teacher from Belle Fourche, S.D.
• Winners get a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion.
• They're also invited to Washington for an awards ceremony and several days of educational and other events, including visits with members of Congress and the Obama administration.

CP says SD rail line at derailment to reopen soon

• BLACK HAWK, S.D. (AP) -- Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. says a rail line west of Rapid City should be repaired and reopened sometime Friday night.
• One of its trains derailed Thursday near Black Hawk.
• The railroad says Peaceful Pines Road reopened late Thursday evening.
• CP says there's no indication that a bridge failure was to blame. Thirteen or 14 cars jumped the track, and local law enforcement officials say a bridge collapsed.
• Company officials say they're continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck, but a preliminary review shows the integrity of the bridge is unrelated to the cause.
• No one was hurt in the mishap.

Rapid City Salvation Army kettles get gold coins

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Gold coins wrapped in $100 bills have been found in two Salvation Army donation kettles in Rapid City.
• Salvation Army spokesman Mark Kirkeby says the anonymous donations are worth a total of about $2,600.
• Donations of such coins in Salvation Army kettles has become an annual holiday event in many cities around the country. Kirkeby says gold coins have been found in Rapid City kettles for at least seven years.
