Grants will fund SD youth outdoors education

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A fund set up to honor the late outdoor broadcaster Tony Dean and his wife will award new grants next spring to help support South Dakota projects that educate young people about the outdoors and conservation.
• The Tony and Dar Dean Outdoor Education Fund offers grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 to projects involving youth conservation education in South Dakota.
• Applications can be submitted from Jan. 1 to March 15. A total of $4,000 in grants is available.
• The state Department of Game, Fish and Parks says the grant money can be used to pay for travel by students or groups to educational events, buy supplies and materials to promote outdoor knowledge and skills, and develop new events and activities.

GOED to attend SHOT Show next month in Las Vegas

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The Governor's Office of Economic Development and a dozen communities will promote South Dakota next month during the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the Jan. 14-17 SHOT Show is an excellent opportunity for state and local officials to connect with companies and tell them about the benefits of doing business in South Dakota.
• Representatives from Aberdeen, Black Hills Power of Rapid City, Chamberlain, Glacial Lakes Area Development, Huron, Madison, Mitchell, Mobridge, North Sioux City, Pierre, Rapid City, Sturgis and Watertown will be on hand.
• GOED has attended the SHOT Show for the past 13 years. It attracts businesses from all 50 states and more than 100 countries.

Nicholls State over IUPUI 62-56

• INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Dantrell Thomas scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Nicholls State beat IUPUI 62-56 on Wednesday night.
