Wheeting has double-double in Groton's win over Tiospa Zina

• Three  players hit double figures with Carly Wheeting having a double-double as Groton Area defeated Tiospa Zina in girls basketball action last night at TZ, 52-38. Wheeting led the Tigers with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Courtney Kurtz added 13 points, Halle Dohman had 10, Ashley Gibbs five, Kylie Hawkins and Natalia Dohman each had four and Camille Sippel had three points.
• Groton led at the quarterstops at 15-4, 26-11 and 36-22.
• Groton made 18 of 62 field goals, 16 of 30 free throws off of Tiospa Zina's 21 team fouls, had 24 rebounds, 17 steals with Kurtz having eight, eight assists with Kurtz having five, and 10 turnovers.
• Tiospa Zina was led in scoring by Bethany Robertson with eight followed by Julissa Max six, Lota Christinson and Mona Jackson each had five, Fidelity Eastman and Jordee Appenay each had three and Demi Dumance, Persephone Eastman, Verlina Hill and Tate Eastman each having two points. They made 15 field goals and was four of four from the line off of Groton's 13 team fouls.
• Groton won the junior varsity game, 34-7. Natalie Dohman led Groton with 10 points followed by Ashley Gibbs with five, Katie Koehler, Marlee Jones and Nicole Fey each had four, Torri Bjerke had three and Maryn Howard and Rachel Blackmun each had two points as all players got to score.
• Verlinda Hill led Tiospa Zina with three points.
• Groton will travel to Redfield on Friday. The Lady Tigers are now 3-0.
