SD man gets nearly 3 years in prison for fraud

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A Fort Pierre man has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison for bank fraud.
• Forty-year-old Wyatt Rasmussen was accused of using fraud to obtain a business line of credit from Dakotaland Federal Credit Union in Huron, then using the money for personal purposes. He was indicted in May and pleaded guilty in August.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Rasmussen was sentenced to 33 months in custody, three years of supervised release and nearly $239,000 in restitution.

Count finds 1,155 homeless people in South Dakota

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Officials have counted 1,155 homeless people in South Dakota, about the same as last year.
• The homeless count was conducted in September by the South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium in collaboration with community agencies and homeless service providers. Fifty-two of 66 counties participated. The statewide, one-day count was a snapshot of people experiencing homelessness.
• The consortium says 40 percent of the homeless were men, 32 percent were women and 28 percent were children.
• The top three reasons named for homelessness were inability to pay rent and security deposits, unemployment or lost jobs, and substance abuse.

Rapid City man sentenced in fed court for escape

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A Rapid City man has been sentenced in federal court for escaping from a minimum-security facility last year.
• Twenty-seven-year-old Eric Ladeaux pleaded guilty in February to escape. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Ladeaux has been sentenced to two years in custody and three years of supervised release.
• Ladeaux was serving out a federal prison sentence for a weapons crime when he left the Community Alternatives of the Black Hills facility in September 2012 and did not return as required. He led federal, state and local officers on a chase in early November of that year and got away but was tracked down two days later and arrested.
