Groton Girls run past Ipswich

• It was the battle of the Tigers Tuesday night in Groton as the Groton Area defeated Ipswich, 54-39.
• Groton jumped off to a 10-0 lead as Carly Wheeting made two field goals, Courtney Kurtz completed a three-point play and Andrea Wanner came off the bench to sink a three-pointer. Groton took an 11-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

• Groton outscored Ipswich, 11-2, in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead. Ipswich rallied at the end of the quarter to make it a 25-12 game at half time.
• Groton opened up a 35-16 lead midway in the third quarter. It was trimmed to 41-27 at the end of the third quarter.
• Ipswich closed to within 10, 42-32, but that was as close as the visiting Tigers could get as Groton won, 54-39. "We have to be more consistent on offense," Wanner said. "When you play that many girls, they have to know their roles. They have to be able to play with each other. This group of girls have been around for several years. Ipswich
