SD flags at half-staff on Pearl Harbor anniversary

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has asked that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff to observe National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
• Flags should be flown at half-staff until sundown Saturday, the 72nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii, on Dec. 7, 1941.
• President Barack Obama issued a proclamation in recognition of the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.

Robots to compete Saturday at School of Mines

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is hosting nearly 150 elementary and middle school students Saturday as they send their Lego robots into competition.
• Fifteen teams of students ages 9-14 have registered to compete in the regional First Lego League contest. Eight teams will qualify to advance to the state finals in Sioux Falls in January.
• The teams have been working together for six weeks learning to build and program competitive autonomous robots, which must do various tasks on their own within a given time to earn points. Results of research projects are presented to judges, and students will compete in teamwork activities to earn additional points.
• This is the third year the School of Mines has hosted the competition.
• The competition runs 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.


Cervi wins second straight barrel racing round

• LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Season leader Sherry Cervi won her second consecutive barrel racing round Friday night in the National Finals Rodeo.
• Cervi, from Marana, Ariz., had a 13.66-second run on Stingray and earned $18,630 to increase her season total to $184,677. She opened the rodeo Thursday night with a run of 13.77.
• "I really wanted to nail my first barrel," Cervi said. "We got so close that my knee touched, but it was perfect. The ground is good. They work really hard to keep the
