Celebrate Christmas at the Dacotah Prairie Museum

•   Did you know that the United States has a National Christmas Tree? America's official Christmas tree is a giant sequoia, called the General Grant, which is located in King's Canyon National Park, California. It was named the official Tree in 1925.
•  That is just one fact of Christmas trivia you will learn at the Dacotah Prairie Museum opening Christmas Tree Lane and Gingerbread Extravaganza this Saturday, November 23rd with light, music and glittering trees.
•  This is the 10th year for Christmas Tree Lane, which was originally inspired by the Christmas tree display at the State Capitol in Pierre. Local businesses, organizations and individuals can decorate a tree or wreath with a variety of themes and ornaments to fit their purpose.
• This year, trees and wreaths included are sponsored by: Aberdeen Girl Scouts, Aberdeen Lioness Club, Aberdeen Pink Ladies, Beta Sigma Phi, NE- SD Celtic Faire, Dream Reachers  4-H Club, Aberdeen Quilting Guild, Emerald City Questers, Aberdeen Area Gift of Love, Aberdeen Sertoma. Avera St. Luke's Auxillary, Boys & Girls Club, Candlelight Quilt Guild, Exchange Club, Foster Grandparents Program, Job's Daughters, OES, Prairie Stitchers North, Kattle Kings 4-H, Land of Oz Questers, Master Gardeners, Our Savior Lutheran Church Sunday School, Parkside Apartments, Chapter CY -PEO, Mary Raile, RSVP, SD Snow Queen Festival, Yellow Brick Road Questers, SAI Music Fraternity, Bonnie Wuger, Zonta Club, Shakespeare Club, Storybook Land Sewing Ladies, Volunteers of America-Dakotas, Sue Gates, Subin Lee- Jiyeong Im & Ah-Ra Gwon - South Korean students from NSU, and the DPM Staff.
•  In the Lamont Gallery for Christmas, gingerbread creations of all descriptions will add to the Holiday splendor. These edible visions have been created by: Lance Kopecky, Nancy Clark North, Sherri Rawstern, Sophie Wheeler, Kristen Annynosulum and sons, Lora Schaunaman, Lori Tobin and Parkside Residents, Aliza Rux, Dawn Rux, and Maggie Martinmass, Mary Marttila and daughters, Staff of the NSU Library, Ann Lee, and Debbie Munger.
•  The Museum Gift Shop is also stocked with angels, vintage toys, Santa's, dolls, local authored books, cookbooks, jewelry, and collectable ornaments and much more. The ornaments from the past four years featured the buildings and stories of Aberdeen. The 2013 ornament is now on sale highlighting famous eating places in Aberdeen!
