The Life of Allan Dennert

• Memorial service for Allan Dennert, 82, Columbia, will be 1 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Columbia Congregational United Church of Christ. Mike Kampa and Pastor Emily Munger officiating. Military honors will be performed by Roy L. Hall American Legion Post #58 of Columbia. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 23. Allan died on Monday, November 18 in Sioux Falls.
• Visitation is on Saturday from 5:00-7:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S.

Main Street, Aberdeen.
• Allan Dennert, son of Robert and Lucille (Wenner) Dennert was born on May 11, 1931 in Columbia. This is the area where he was raised and attended school, graduating as Valedictorian from Columbia High School with the class of 1949. While growing up in Columbia, Allan helped his grandfather on the family farm.
• Allan went on to attend Northern State Teachers College for one year. He then returned to Columbia to farm prior to his enlistment in the Air Force in 1953.
• Allan was united in marriage to Connie Reed on June 14, 1943 in Biloxi, MS. Throughout his enlistment he spent time in Korea, Great Falls, MT and Gettysburg, SD prior to moving to the farm north of Columbia. Allan built a new house on the farm in 1972 and this is where he and his family called home until the time of his death.
• Allan loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. For many years he operated a hunting lodge through which he developed many long lasting friendships. In his free time he also enjoyed traveling.
• Allan was a member of the Columbia Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as Moderator for many years. For over 50 years he was a member of the Mason's and was also a member of the Roy L. Hall American Legion Post #58 in Columbia for 57 years. Allan was also a member of the Brainard Township School Board during the consolidation with Groton.
• Grateful for having shared Allan's life are his wife of 60 years, Connie Dennert, Columbia; four children, Greg (Connie) Dennert, Fargo; Brian Dennert, Columbia, Deb (Bill) Maddocks, Mitchell; and Scott (Cara) Dennert, Columbia; four grandchildren, Dr. Kami Maddocks, Columbus, OH; Brad (Katie) Maddocks, Omaha, NE;  Kalee Dennert, Columbia; and Jenna Dennert, Norman, OK; one great grandchild, Macey Maddocks, one brother Dennis Dennert and one sister Deanna Hanson.
• Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Dennert, father-in-law Wilbur Reed, mother-in-law Jane Reed and one sister Kay Streyle.
