Each week we do a variety of lessons that involve our letter of the week.   In science, for example, we have learned about bubbles, electricity, and Fire Safety.  During our computer time, we play games on the internet that reinforce our letter of the week.   We also learn a new song each week that helps us to remember our sound.  We also review shapes and numbers one through ten.
• Something we are looking forward to is the Veteran's Day program.  We will begin working on a poem to recite for all of you.  We are going to learn about people we know that are Veterans.   We look forward to seeing you in November.
• If you'd like to see how we spend our day - stop in and visit us.  We would love to help you experience life through the eyes of a five-year old!

1st Grade ~ Emily Eichler & Shauna Remily
Greetings from first grade! We have been very busy learning new routines and skills each day. Our days are filled with reading, math, science, social studies, art, handwriting, calendar, PE, music, and library.
• In reading, we have already learned 39 high-frequency words, how to use possessives, use correct punctuation, blend words, identify different genres of stories, and determine the main idea and details of a story. We also build, read, and manipulate words daily.
• Our math curriculum is teaching us many different ways to solve math problems. We will continue to learn more strategies throughout the year. Students are encouraged to solve problems using the method that works best for them. Some of the strategies we have learned include making circle drawings, using fingers to count on, and finding the greater number to count on. We have used these to solve addition and subtraction equations, find the unknown partner, and solve story problems. This week finds us making "Math Mountains" to find unknown totals and partners.
• We have been busy learning about rules and laws of our community and country and how the location of people affects the way they live. Our latest adventure takes us traveling through the continents. In science we have learned about living and nonliving things, habitats, and how plants and animals live. We also love to express our creativity through an art activity each week.
• As you can see we are very busy in first grade!

3rd Grade ~ Kristi Anderson & Deb Winburn
Third grade began the year with 40 students. We welcome student teacher, Elizabeth Maunu, to our room. She will be with third grade until the middle of December.
• The new Common Core standards have affected the order in which we teach
