Groton's volleyball team advances to region championship semifinals

• Groton Area, Sisseton and Aberdeen Roncalli all won first round matches at the Region 1A Volleyball Tournament being played in Britton. The host team, Britton-Hecla, had a first round bye as they are the top seeded team in the tournament.
• Aberdeen Roncalli defeated Tiospa Zina, 25-15, 25-11 and 25-12.

• Sisseton defeated Milbank, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-10.
• Groton Area defeated Webster Area, 26-24, 25-17 and 25-23.
• Webster Area jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game. Groton came back to tie the game at three and five before taking a 7-5 lead as Kylie Hawkins got a kill.
• Groton got a rally going as a Webster serve went into the net, Josie Doeden had a block to score, Skyler Bonn had an ace serve and Camille Sippel added a kill as Groton took a 14-9 lead.
• The Lady Tigers held a 16-11 lead before Webster Area started to rally.
• "Volleyball has a lot of momentum shifts," said Coach Aaron Helvig. "It's like a roller coaster. It's up and down. The team that has fewer ups and downs is the one that's going to win. If you can be even keel through the bad times you can go get it done."
