ND, SD celebrate 124th birthdays

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota and South Dakota are celebrating their 124th birthdays.
• The two states entered the Union on Nov. 2, 1889. President Benjamin Harrison signed the admission papers for the two states on that day. North Dakota became the 39th state, and South Dakota the 40th.
• Legend says President Harrison shuffled the statehood papers before signing them.

Creighton beats Northern State in exhibition

• OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Two-time All-America Doug McDermott scored 26 points in 24 minutes to lead Creighton to an 89-61 exhibition victory over Northern State on Friday night.
• Northern State was led by nine points each from Skye Warwick and Darin Peterka. The Division II Wolves made eight 3-pointers in the opening half but just one in the second.
• Creighton, which will play its first season in the Big East, shot 62.5 percent for the game (30 of 48). The Bluejays made 9 of 20 3-point attempts and 20 of 33 free throws while having 23 assists against just 13 turnovers.
• Ethan Wragge and Toby Hegner had nine points each for Creighton while Isaiah Zierden and Will Artino both added eight. Artino grabbed eight rebounds in his first start at center. Newcomer Devin Brooks had seven assists and six points in 15 minutes to help a Bluejay bench that scored 49 points.

Man accused of shooting Pierre officer charged

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- An Eagle Butte man accused in the nonfatal shooting of a Pierre police officer during a standoff has been charged with six felony gun-related charges.
• Federal authorities say they've been looking for 27-year-old Jason Todd Garreau
