The Life of David Gene Abeln

• Funeral services for David Gene Abeln, 61, formerly of Rapid City will be 2 p.m., Thursday, October 31st at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Father Mike Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in the Groton Union Cemetery at a later date.. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to services on Thursday.
• David died peacefully on October 29, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Groton, after a battle with cancer.
• David was born January 21, 1952 in Aberdeen to Virginia (Pratt) and Eugene Abeln. He attended Groton elementary and high school graduating in 1970.  He also attended Northern State College and went on to Watertown Technical Institute where graduated with an Electronics

degree. He worked at Control Data in Aberdeen and Rapid City for 13 years.  He owned and operated "Dave's Old West Jerky" in Rapid City for six years before returning to Aberdeen to work for Phones To Go and Menards. The past 6 years Dave worked at Sally O Malley's Casino in Rapid City.
• David enjoyed hunting and fishing.
• He is survived by his two daughters: Vanessa (Benjamin) Chernivsky and Kacy Abeln, both of Chicago, IL; his mother Virginia Abeln of Groton; his sister Peggy Abeln of Aberdeen, his brother Neal (Wynella) Abeln of Groton; Nephews Branden (April) Abeln of Groton, Brock Abeln of Groton and his niece Lacey (Tim) Grabow of South Shore, SD; and four great nephews Tevin and Axel Abeln of Groton, Lane and Covin Grabow of South Shore, SD.
• Preceding him in death were his father Eugene Abeln, his grandparents Edwin and Vera Abeln and Frank and Frances Pratt.
• Condolences may be sent to 306 North 3rd St, Groton, SD, 57445.
• The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
