this year! These firemen are one dedicated group of people that have made the Claremont Fire Department one to be very proud of.  A huge crowd filled the Legion Hall to enjoy all the delicious food and drinks they could handle as well as take part in a number of raffles held during the event. Stephen Wright was the lucky winner of the 4 Wheeler and Sherm Cutler won the Ipad.  The names of the cash prize winners were not available at news time but one lucky person received $100 cash and six others received $50 cash prizes.  There may be some of you that will be happy to hear that Don Wegleitner did not win any guns this year.  He did receive a special gift shipped to him from some friends in Texas however and it was presented to him at the fundraiser.  You'll have to ask him how his little piglet is doing the next time you see him!
• Marie Patterson attended the Firemen's Fundraiser and had a wonderful time visiting with family and friends.  Some of those she enjoyed visits with were her nephew Duane Hinman, her niece, Tina Fordham, and granddaughters Allison and April Wegleitner.  This fundraiser is a lot of fun so if you missed it this year, be sure to get your tickets next year so you can join us!
• It's time once again to say goodbye.  I'm quite sure I won't be doing a lot more pheasant hunting until I complete the "How Not To Talk About Everything Under The Sun When Your Guy Is Watching The Sky For Flying Pheasants" Course and I wouldn't be surprised if I will also be required to pass the "Yes, I Can Run Through Those Weeds Like A Dog With My Nose On The Ground" Course. I'm not sure if it's worth it.  I think I'll just go shopping instead!  Hunting for bargains, now that's my specialty! Have a great week!

Kiwanis Club

• Sixteen members of the Groton Kiwanis Club held their weekly dinner meeting last Wednesday noon.  Sherry McKiver is club's new chef.
•  Tom Paepke , new president; called for reports on the annual Halloween party, set for October 31, and the annual Snow Queen and talent contest, set for November 17.
• Roger Rix was program leader, and showed a video on World War II.
•  Next week's program leader is Orville Schaller, followed by Larry Schelle.
