• "Deep Science in the Black Hills" begins at noon at the Al Neuharth Media Center on the University of South Dakota campus in Vermillion. Physicists will give a short tour of the Davis Campus of the former Homestake gold mine and answer audience questions.
• The lab is home to two major experiments.
• The LUX experiment is looking for a mysterious substance called "dark matter," thought to be the predominant form of matter in the universe. The Majorana Demonstrator experiment is looking for a rare form of radioactive decay, which could help physicists explain the origin of matter.
• The presentation is free. An optional $8 lunch follows.
