SD joins settlement with marketing company

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the state will get at least $250,000 as its share of a settlement reached by 47 states and the District of Columbia with a marketing company.
• Jackley says Affinion and its subsidiaries, Trilegiant and Webloyalty, will pay more than $30 million to settle allegations that they misled consumers into signing up and paying for discount clubs and membership programs.
• Jackley says $150,000 of South Dakota's proceeds from the settlement will go to a state program that will help crime victims get information about the status of those who hurt them.
• South Dakota consumers who were hurt by Affinion's marketing practices also can get refunds. They can file a complaint with the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.

Wheat Growers locations recognized for safety

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has recognized eight Wheat Growers locations for superior safety performance.
• The Carpenter, Huron Fertilizer and Grain, Kennebec, Miller, Aberdeen's West Terminal, Willow Lake, Woonsocket and Yale grain and agronomy cooperative locations recently received meritorious achievement awards at the South Dakota Safety & Health Conference Governor's Safety Awards luncheon in Sioux Falls.
• Employers submit workplace injury data that is compared with state and national data and the entrant's past performance. Ongoing safety programs and activities are also considered.
• Vice president of safety, environmental and regulatory affairs Bill Spreeman says it's especially fitting that the locations receive the awards heading into harvest.
