Clark-Willow Lake brought a very tough volleyball team to town Thursday night and the Cyclones whirled home with a 3-0 win over Groton Area. Game scores were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16.
• Groton dug a hole early in the first match, getting down 7-0 before calling a time out. Groton's first two points were unearned as Clark-Willow Lake hit one in the net and one out of bounds. Groton's first earned score came when Sadie Rogers tipped one over the net and it was 12-3. That started a Groton rally as Groton scored six unanswered points to trail, 12-8. "At times, we played well," said Coach Aaron Helvig. "I'm happy that we fought back. Our serving came through at that point." Groton closed to within three, 18-15, but the Cyclones went on to win, 25-18.
• "Our consistency wasn't there like it has been in the past," Helvig said. "They're not the fastest team around, and we were hoping to get them moving and use that to our advantage. They kept us running pretty good. I have to give Clark-Willow Lake credit, they're a good team."
