SD Supreme Court holding fall session in Spearfish

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Supreme Court will hear arguments in Spearfish Monday on whether to allow at trial an alleged confession by a teenager charged with murder.
• State Circuit Court Judge Tim Bjorkman threw out the alleged confession of Maricela Diaz because he said she did not waive her right to remain silent when being questioned in the November 2009 death of 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara of Mitchell. Prosecutors appealed in January.
• Diaz was 15 years old at the time of Guevara's killing but is being tried in adult court. She is now 19.
• Diaz's boyfriend, Alexander Salgado, pleaded guilty to murder in the case three years ago and is serving life in prison.
• The high court is holding its fall term of court in Spearfish through Wednesday.

Thousands participate in race for cancer cure

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Thousands of runners wearing pink gathered in Sioux Falls Sunday in support of an organization trying to find a cure for breast cancer.
• The South Dakota Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure relocated last year to Sioux Falls from Vermillion.
• Runner Nicki Loucks was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. The 49-year-old Crosby, N.D., woman tells the Argus Leader that she considers herself "very fortunate" despite having a few bumps in the road to recovery.
• Loucks, who's been cancer-free since 2008, says it's very humbling because she knows there are people who've had the disease worse than she did and some people haven't even survived.
• Susan G. Komen South Dakota executive director Mary Kolsrud says last year's race raised $74,000 for the foundation. This year's goal was $100,000.
