yard line. Kasey Kurtz had a 20 yard gain and Jackson Doeden had a 23 yard gain as Groton got down to the Sioux Valley 27 yard line. Krueger got a first down and the ball down to the four yard line. On the following play, Kurtz scored and Jacob Milbrandt kicked the PAT and Groton took a 7-6 lead with 5:18 left in the first quarter.
• The Cossacks would answer one more time in the first quarter. Hayden Hall returned the ball to the Groton 43 yard.
"We were giving them short fields," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "That is something we will have to work on." Eleven plays later, Brook Swartos scored on a one-yard run. Once again, the PAT kick was blocked and it was a 12-7 Sioux Valley lead at the end of the first quarter.
• Groton was unable to score on its next possession, and on the punt, the Cossacks took over on the Groton 45 yard line. Eight plays later, Trevor Lundin scored on a five yard run. The PAT run by Lundin was good and it was a 20-7 lead for the Cossacks with 7:02 left in the first half.
• Groton ended up turning the ball
