South Dakota man wins federal duck stamp contest

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota artist is the winner of the 2013 federal duck stamp contest.
• Adam Grimm, of Burbank, placed first in the annual U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service art contest. There were 202 entries.
• Grimm's oil painting of a canvasback will be made into the 2014-15 federal duck stamp, which will go on sale in late June 2014.
• The stamp sells for $15 and raises about $25 million each year to help conserve and protect wetlands.
• It's the second time that Grimm, an Ohio native, has won the contest. His art previously appeared on the 2000-01 federal duck stamp.
• The results were announced Saturday. Hoyt Smith of Tulsa, Okla., placed second and Ron Louque, of Charlottesville, Va., finished third.

Sioux Falls gets OK to move downtown rail yard

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls city leaders can move ahead with a plan to move the railroad switchyard in downtown.
• State and federal officials have signed off on a seven-year impact study that found there would be no major environmental impact if the tracks were removed.
• That allows the city to begin the appraisal process for the 10 acres that could eventually be sold and developed.
• The land is along Phillips Avenue between downtown and Falls Park.
• Switching operations would take place at other Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Ellis & Eastern Railroad yards in the region.

Dakota Marker trophy up for grabs in Brookings

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State and North Dakota State coaches didn't expect much from the Dakota Marker after the trophy was unveiled in 2004 during a sparse news conference at the border town of Hankinson, N.D.
• SDSU Head Coach John Stiegelmeier says the Jackrabbits at the time didn't have a conference and didn't have a rival, so he wondered if the annual game would ever amount to much.
