Jackley, colleagues ask for timber sale revenue

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley and a dozen colleagues from other states are asking the federal government to stop withholding timber sale revenue.
• The Conference of Western Attorneys General says the funds are owed to the states under the federal Budget Control Act.
• Jackley says the U.S. government has made the right decision to stop withholding money owed to states and schools under the Mineral Leasing Act, and the attorneys general would like authorities to reach the same conclusion under the Budget Control Act.
• One part of the act entitles states to funding from the federal government for the sale of timber that is sold on federal lands within the state jurisdictions' boundaries. Two others guarantee shares of the U.S. Forest Service's receipts for timber, recreation, grazing and minerals.
