President signs Minuteman law for visitor center

• INTERIOR, S.D. (AP) -- President Barack Obama has signed into law legislation that clears the way for a new visitor center at the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site at Interior.
• The new 7,300-square-foot center will house displays, a theater, retail space and the park's administrative offices.
• It's scheduled to open in November 2014.
• The Minuteman Missile National Historic Site was established in 1999 to commemorate the history and significance of the Cold War. The site preserves the last remained Minuteman II missile system in the country.
• South Dakota's three members of Congress say the law will transfer about 29 acres of National Forest Service land to the National Park Service.

Piedmont woman claims $10,000 Powerball prize

• PIEDMONT, S.D. (AP) -- A Piedmont woman has claimed a $10,000 Powerball prize.
• South Dakota lottery officials say Sandy Geffre won the game's third prize in last Saturday's drawing. The odds of winning it are 1 in about 649,000. Geffre also won another $4 on another play line.
• The Big D convenience store in Rapid City gets a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
• Powerball is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot sits at $40 million for the next drawing, on Saturday.

SD state Rep. Krebs to announce political plans

• TEA, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State Rep. Shantel Krebs says she'll announce her future political plans this weekend.
• The Republican from Renner has been preparing to run for secretary of state. In recent weeks she circulated a letter to Republican delegates, saying the "integrity of the secretary of state's office has been damaged and much of the public have lost faith in it."
• Krebs says she'll announce her intentions "for a potential run for statewide office" on Saturday night during a political dinner near Tea.
• Secretary of State Jason Gant announced last week that he won't seek re-election.
