Replica of T-rex named Sue returns to South Dakota

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A T-rex named Sue is returning to South Dakota for a three-month visit.
• The full-size traveling replica of the dinosaur unearthed from the Hell Creek Formation near Faith more than 20 years ago will appear at the Washington Pavilion's Kirby Science Discovery starting Saturday. The real Sue remains at Chicago's Field Museum, which purchased the 67-million-year-old fossil at auction for $8.4 million in 1997.
• The 42-foot-long, 12-foot-high Sue was more than 90 percent complete when she was found, missing only a foot, one arm and a few ribs and vertebrae. She's named after fossil hunter Sue Hendrickson, who was working in the area with the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research's Peter Larson.
• The model was created using casts of the original bones.
• The exhibit runs through Jan. 5.

Black Hills Power rates going up 6.4 percent

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Black Hills Power says the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has approved a settlement that will increase electric rates 6.4 percent.
• The Rapid City-based company says the annual revenue increase of $8.8 million is the result of an agreement involving Black Hills Power, PUC staff and other parties.
• It filed a request in December to increase rates by 9.94 percent and was allowed to implement that adjustment on an interim basis June 16.
• Since the approved increase is lower, rates billed to customers will be reduced on Oct. 1 to the 6.4 percent and charges for service between June 16 and Sept. 30 will be recalculated. Customer bills will be credited with the refund starting in November.
• Black Hills Power is a subsidiary of Black Hills Corp.
