Padfield is retiring, baseball complex is a mess and the historic church is homeless

• Those are the headlines from the city council meeting Monday night.
• Chuck Padfield announced at the meeting that after 15 years of working the concession stand and four years of coaching, he is retiring from baseball. "I'm 62 and I'm retiring from the concession stand and baseball," he said. "I want to spend more time with my grand daughter." Mayor Scott Hanlon thanked Chuck for his years of service and the council gave a round of applause. This past year, Chuck became a co-coordinator with Travis Kurth in scheduling games.
• The baseball report was presented at the meeting and Kurth said for the most part, everything went well this year. He did say there would be some changes forthcoming. On the national level, no more college eligible players will be able to play Legion ball. "It's a bad rule for South Dakota," Kurth said. "We may lose 10 percent to 15 percent of our Legion teams because of this rule." In addition, he said that the Legion team will have to draw from the Teeners and the Teeners may have to draw from the Junior Teeners. Kurth said it may be a matter of time before Groton will not be able to field a junior teener team.
• They talked about scheduling games. Padfield said that most towns that have T-ball teams no longer allow them to travel out of town. He also said very few towns around field girls' softball teams. There was discussion of having the midget and pee wee teams petition into the Three Rivers League, but Kurth said, "They may be
