State to break ground on new veterans home

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs plans to break ground later this month on a new veterans home in Hot Springs.
• A ceremony at the site of the current Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home campus is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. MDT. Scheduled speakers include Gov. Dennis Daugaard, Lt. Gov. Matt Michels and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Larry Zimmerman.
• The new two-story residential facility will have 100 rooms -- 52 of which are

skilled care and 48 of which are individual living quarters. Eight neighborhoods or households will be arranged around administrative and support amenities.
