Wind Cave National Park proposes fee increase

• WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP) -- Wind Cave National Park is seeking public comments on a proposal to raise fees for camping and cave tours next spring.
• Superintendent Vidal Davila says the proposed camping fees would make the campground financially self-sufficient. He says the proposed new tour fees would be in line with what other Black Hills caves are charging.
• Fees for the various cave tours would increase by $2 or $3 for adults. Camping fees would increase from the current $12 to $18 per site and from the current $20 to $40 for groups.
• Comments can be made online at www.parkplanning.nps.gov . The park also is holding open houses Sept. 23 at the Outdoor Campus in Rapid City, Sept. 24 at the Hot Springs Library and Sept. 25 at the National Forest Supervisor's office in Custer.

Janklow, 9 other inductees joining SD Hall of Fame

• OACOMA, S.D. (AP) -- Former governor and congressman Bill Janklow and nine others will be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame on Saturday.
• Other inductees include Miles Beacom, who started First Premier's credit card division, and Shirley Halleen.
• Halleen has been a politician and has worked with a number of service organizations. She tells the Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/1e9PFKu ) that she was surprised, excited and humbled by the nod.
• The ceremony is being held in Oacoma.
• The South Dakota Hall of Fame board of directors chose the group of 10 from among 86 nominees in its 36th year. The organization recognizes those who have contributed to a culture of excellence in South Dakota in the categories of professionalism, arts and entertainment, historical, sports and general.
