Roncalli netters beat Groton

• Only a small crowd was on hand Tuesday evening, but the Groton Arena was rocking as both sides made a lot of noise while watching the Lady Tigers take on Aberdeen Roncalli in the first home volleyball match of the season. Roncalli defeated Groton, 3 games to one.
• The Roncalli student body was very vocal in showing their support for the Lady Cavaliers throughout the games, which in turn brought out the School Spirit in the Groton fans. Aberdeen Roncalli was able to handily win the first game. They were able to steadily add to their score while twice holding the Lady Tigers defensively. Three times in the first game Roncalli was able to rally and add up to five points to their score before Groton could get the ball back. The first game ended with Roncalli up by five points, 25-20.
• Groton was unable to regroup in the second game, and Roncalli lead the whole game before winning, 25-21.
• The third game belonged to the Lady Tigers. Lead by Courtney Kurtz, who racked up six unanswered points to open the game, Groton dominated throughout the game. Roncalli did rally towards the end to close up the lead. With some great volleys, Groton was able to hold on to their lead and win the third game, 26-24.
• Both teams were fairly evenly matched in the fourth game, which the lead changing back and forth, depending on who was serving. The Lady Tigers were unable to hold it at the end, allowing Roncalli to rally for four unanswered points to take over
