Rapid City couple get jail time for rape charge

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A Rapid City man and his girlfriend each has been sentenced to half a year in jail for being accessories to rape.
• Twenty-year-old Alexander Martinez and 22-year-old Kristina Hague were accused of supplying a 15-year-old girl with alcohol to persuade her to have sex in January 2012. They were charged with rape but eventually pleaded guilty to being accessories to rape.
• Pennington County State's Attorney Scott Roetzel says the plea agreement spares the victim from having to testify at a trial.
• Hague was sentenced last month and Martinez this week. Each was given 180 days in jail and five years of probation.

Teachers' children an issue in Sioux Falls

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Teachers in Sioux Falls might soon lose the ability to watch their own children in their classrooms before and after school.
• School district officials are worried about liability, and the school board is considering a policy that would ban teachers from the practice during the hours they're on duty -- from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The policy would allow staffers to bring their children with them to school on weekends and at night, and during emergencies.
• Teachers say having their children with them before and after school gives them more time with their children amid sometimes long hours.
• School Board President Doug Morrison says nothing has been decided, and that the board wants to work with staff to make the right decision.

Rapid City crash claims 2nd victim 2 weeks later

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Two people have died as the result of a crash at a Rapid City area intersection.
• The Highway Patrol says 94-year-old Audrey Gerlach, of Rapid City, died shortly after the Aug. 26 crash involving the car she was riding in and a van. Her husband, 95-year-old Charles Gerlach, was injured and died on Saturday.
