Groton Girls Soccer have busy week

• The Groton Girls had a busy week starting on Thursday September 5th with a trip to Mitchell to take on the Kernels'.  On a hot afternoon, the Lady Tigers started off fast and went up 3-0 in first 30 minutes on goals scored by Harliegh Winther.  The Lady Tigers had a number of other scoring opportunities but failed to find the net.  The second half became battle in the midfield with both teams having numerous opportunities to score, but good defense kept the game 3-0.  Darac Harry had a strong night at goal and with help from the defenders, McKenzie Menzia, Madison Profeta, and Katie Koehler the Kernels' were not able to score
• On Saturday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Sioux Falls for matches with O'Gorman and Tea Area.  On an extremely hot afternoon the Lady Tigers showed what they were made of.   In the first game the Tigers play last year's state runner up in the state tourney and showed themselves to be everything O'Gorman wanted.  O'Gorman scored in the first half on a long shot.  A second goal was scored prior to the end of the first half on a play deflected by Darac Harry, but it was able to find the net.  O'Gorman scored one final goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.  The Tigers played one of their best games in lost.
• After a 2 hour break the Lady Tigers were back on the hot artificial turf of O'Gorman stadium to take on Tea Area.  The Lady Tigers were played well and again had a number of scoring chances.  Harliegh Winther was fouled as she was head to the goal and earned a penalty shot that she placed in the back left side of the goal.  The Tea area goalie made a number saves to keep the Tigers from scoring any further.  Darac Harry played keeper for both games.  Outstanding play was seen by all of the Tigers, with notable performances coming from Camille Sippel, Cheyenne Schaller, Emily Locke, Heather Lone and the entire defense of Madison Profeta, McKenzie Menzia, Kate Koehler.
• The Lady Tigers are back in action at home on Tuesday against defending state champion Aberdeen Central Eagles with the Varsity game staring at 3pm.  The Lady Tigers then play again on Saturday hosting  Sioux Falls Christian at 1pm.
