Tiger defense holds Roncalli scoreless in second half

• Roncalli hit paydirt three times in the first half before being shut down by the Tiger defense in the second half as the Cavaliers won their homecoming game over Groton, 19-0.
• "Our effort was a lot better," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "The kids really played hard."
• Roncalli tallied 170 yards of total offense in two drives in the first half. Their first touchdown came with 4:26 left in the first quarter. The Cavaliers went 73 yards on two plays with three first downs in 43 seconds as Dalton Cox scored on a 46 yard plass from Zach Lundquist. The Cox PAT kick was good and it was 7-0.
• Reilly Ell had a really good punt as the ball landed on the three-yard line. "If we could have held them here, we would have had really good field position," Wanner said.  But the Cavaliers marched down the field in 10 plays, 97 yards, five first downs in 3:23 as Bryden McNeary scored on a 32 yard pass from

Lundquist. The PAT kick was no good and it was 13-0. "That one stung," Wanner said. "It took some of the wind out of our sails. We were hoping to keep them at seven and set us up with good field position."
• Groton's next drive was short lived for on the third play, Greg Zens intercepted the ball and ran back 40 yards to score for Roncalli. The PAT run attempt failed and it was 19-0 with 7:58 left in the first half.
