ple," he said.
• The golf course is getting a new well. Hanlon said he has been in contact with the well driller that former Mayor Roy Olson was dealing with and he could be here on Thursday to dig the well. There was discussion on how much the city is willing to invest in the drilling, electrical and a building, if needed. The council set a limit of $25,000 and once that amount is reached, the golf course would have to come up with the rest. The cost of drilling the well and the pump is around $14,000. McGannon said that there is a good chance that good water will be available with the well. It is considered a surface well, drilling about 160 feet down.
• Bill Palmer, Mansfield, is going around to Brown County cemeteries and donating stones for the unknown people buried. Groton has 23 unknown people. The council accepted his gift.
• The Happy Feet event held by Emmanuel Lutheran Church netted $1,100 and the proceeds will be given to the city for the new playground equipment at the park. The city needs to come up with $12,000 in matching funds for the project through fundraising efforts.
• Hanlon and Muilenburg discussed what they learned from the Heartland Consumers Power District meeting held recently. The main focus of the meeting was how to retain and get young people involved in the community. Hanlson said that he would like to talk with the superintendent and ask if the government class would be interested in nominating someone to be a youth advisor to the city council.
• The first reading of the 2014 budget was approved with not many changes from the last meeting.
