Nehls comes before council to clear the air

• Kevin Nehls, who ran for mayor earlier this year, came before the council Monday night. Here is a transcript of the discussion.
• Kevin: My name was brought up at a meeting and I'm curious as to why it was brought up. It was a complete lie.
• It all started when I ran for mayor. And I know when you run for a public office, there is going to be some things said about what you do or what you say. But when it's not remotely close to what you say, it's upsetting.  I don't understand why it was said.
• In late July or early August, Anita made some comments that Roy was going to be resigning, and they were going to be nominating someone for the position. So I made a call to the Municipal League in Pierre and asked the question of how the process works and when a mayor resigns how do they nominate people and how long that term lasts. That was the question I asked. And from what I understand, it was brought out that I was looking to have Roy removed from office and there was no such comment ever made. It's pretty upsetting that someone would say that. I really feel bad for the Roy Olson family. There is no way I would say something like that. And that's why I'm here tonight.
• And you know it's pretty tough for somebody to come out and run for office and then be a target, even after the election is over. At some point, it's gotta stop. I don't understand why somebody, as a city employee, would do something like that. I understand if you want to support somebody for council or mayor, you are more than glad to do that, but why would you put somebody down, especially when you're em
