SD-based kitchen business expands franchises

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A kitchen repair and remodeling business based in Aberdeen is opening 23 franchise locations.
• The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/14SU4fT ) that Kitchen Tune-Up is locating new franchises in Sears Home Appliance Showrooms and Sears Appliance and Hardware Stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
• Kitchen Tune-Up was founded in Aberdeen in 1988. Its franchise system is made up of more than 150 franchise territories in the U.S. and Canada.
• The business serves residential and commercial customers. Services range from restoring, repairing or refacing cabinets to installing new custom cabinetry.

SD promotes support for people with disabilities

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is recognizing workers who provide hands-on support and training for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• The governor says there are more than 3,700 direct support professionals who work with more than 4,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in programs across South Dakota. He says those workers provide publicly funded support that helps people with disabilities lead meaningful and productive lives.
• The support workers help people find jobs, volunteer opportunities and recreational and religious activities.
• The governor has proclaimed Sept. 8-14 as Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week in South Dakota. A variety of programs, activities and ceremonies will take place in the state.

'Heat days' become more common for sweaty schools
