Transportation officials tour interchange project

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and

South Dakota Transportation Secretary Darin Bergquist have gotten a firsthand look at an improvement project at one of the busiest interchanges in the state's largest city.
• The two officials on Thursday toured the ongoing reconstruction of the Cliff Avenue interchange project in Sioux Falls. It's aimed at improving the paving and street lighting and extending the life of the interchange.
• It's the first overhaul of the interchange in more than half a century. It's to be completed later this year. Officials say it will offer improved freight movement for the area and better access between Cliff Avenue and Interstate 90 for the two routes' estimated 31,650 daily drivers.
• The $21.1 million project is being paid for mainly with federal highway money.
