SD, ND troopers cooperate on Interstate 29

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Highway Patrol troopers from North Dakota and South Dakota are patrolling Interstate 29 throughout both states in a joint effort to stop criminal activity and reduce traffic crashes.
• The joint operation is covering I-29 from the Iowa state line to the Canadian border on Friday.
• Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, says the joint effort seeks to make people aware of safe driving practices. He says the presence of troopers often reminds people of the need for safety, without the need for an arrest.
• Maj. Michael Gerhart of the North Dakota Highway Patrol says the operation lets people know authorities will not tolerate hazardous traffic violations and criminal activity.
• The troopers will emphasize the enforcement of laws dealing with seat belts, speeding and drunken driving.

3M to expand manufacturing in Brookings

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- State officials say 3M will expand its manufacturing capabilities in its Brookings facility and add 29 jobs.
• The South Dakota Board of Economic Development has approved has a reinvestment payment of up to $234,000 to offset the sales and use tax paid on eligible equipment costs incurred during the project.
• The Governor's Office of Economic Development will provide $17,000 in Workforce Development Program funds to assist with new employee training.
• M was the first company to receive approval under the investment program.
• Brandon-based Marmen Energy has also been approved for a reinvestment payment of up to $600,000 for the wind tower maker's expansion project.

ND man sentenced on federal sex offender charge

• FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- The owner of a West Fargo tanning salon has been sentenced to prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
• Twenty-eight-year-old Jared Holland pleaded guilty to the charge in federal court
