Groton Pool remains open, draws large crowds

• One way to beat the heat is to visit the City pool, but don't be surprised to find that your neighbors had the same idea. The pool has seen record numbers in the last few days.
• "Monday we had 155 people use the pool," Brenda Madsen, one of the Groton City Pool Managers said. "Yesterday there were about 160 people."
• Groton School District letting out early has helped swell the numbers as many of the students traded their hot seats in school for the cool water of the pool.
• Groton area residents are not the only people using the pool either. Groton is one of the few community swimming pools still open, Aberdeen, Bristol, Webster and Britton are all closed.
• "We have families coming from Ipswich, Aberdeen and Bristol," Madsen said. "There have been lots of families using the pool."
• With the forecast calling for continued extreme heat, the pool plans to remain open all week.
• "We will be open from 4pm to 7pm all week," Madsen said. "We will close early, at 6 pm on Friday for the home football game. On Saturday and Sunday we will be open from 1 pm to 8pm."
